I wonder how you're getting on with your Bible reading in 2016?! If like me you've fallen a day behind, today is a great day to catch up! It's an extra day this year so you have one more day to read through the Bible! It doesn't really matter where you're up to, but why not use today to get going again? Here's the link to the Bible reading plan I suggested - it's a great way to read through the OT once and the NT and Psalms twice in a year:
But why are we reading the Bible? A sneak peek into tomorrow's reading would show us a wrong motiviation - the older brother in Luke 15 thought he was earning his father's favour by slaving away, we don't earn God's favour by slaving away whether over Bible reading or whatever. We have God's favour when like the younger brother we return to the Father in sorrow for going away and show Him that we want to be with Him, and we read the Bible because we want to know God better.
Jim Packer once wrote, ‘If you want to judge how well a person understands Christianity, find out how much he makes of the thought of being God’s child, and having God as his Father. If this is not the thought that prompts and controls his worship and prayers and his whole outlook on life, it means he does not understand Christianity very well at all.’
So enjoy the extra day, delight in being a child of God and enjoy reading His word!
