Last night we started our Christianity Explored Course, we had a great time, but the DVD left us with a niggling question - "if you don't think the Gospel is the best news in the world - then you almost certainly haven't understood it." Wow, that's a challenge! Do I really believe that the Good News about Jesus is the best news in the world? When I think about it for a while - the answer is 'yes' - that God should give his only Son to make a wretch his treasure (as we sang last night). It is staggering that God should love us enough to do that, and of course it's the best news in the world that we can be in a right relationship with our Creator that begins now and will only get better into eternity! But do I live like it's the best news in the world? The honest answer is almost certainly not. What a challenge.
One lady who certainly believed Jesus to be the best news in the world (and lived like it) was in the Gospel reading of the today (Mark 14). She poured a year's worth of wages over Jesus' feet! The good Cavan men standing nearby said "what a waste!" But it wasn't, Jesus is the best news in the world and is worth everything - even a year's wages!
It's not too late to join us - we'll be meeting in the Rectory next Wednesday at 8pm.
