I'm a day behind already! But yesterdays readings from the M'Cheyne plan were all about a fresh start...Gen 1 had the amazing fresh start of creation, with man and woman being made in the image of God, Ezra 1 had the fresh start after exile for fallen image bearers, Matthew 1 had the best fresh start ever - with the birth of the one who "also made the stars" (Gen 1:16 - perhaps the biggest understatement in the Bible!), who came to rescue fallen image bearers. His name - Jesus - because he will save his people from their sins (Matthew 1:21).
Whatever has gone before us, these are great encouragements - we are made in the image of God, that means each and every one us is incredibly special to God and valuable no matter what. Even though we've failed to live as God's image bearers, God loved us so much that he sent his Son to take on flesh and save us from all our failings. If we've called on the Lord (Acts 2:21) then we're part of His people and we're waiting for the best Fresh Start ever - when Jesus returns (Acts 1:11) - what sort of lives should we live while we wait? (look at 2 Peter 3:11)
